Traditional computer virus images in 1980s. IN 1982,RICH SKERNTA, created virus name ELK CLONER. 
 that attaches itself to Apple those 3.3 operating system and spread by floppy disk. 

First PC virus was a boot sector virus (c brain ). It was created in 1986 by two brother BASIT and A.FEW. ALVI . The brothers created the virus to prevent pirate copies of the software they had written.

Since mid 1990 macro virus has become common most of the virus are written in scripting language for Microsoft programs such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel these viruses separate by Excel spreadsheet and other Microsoft office document

Now a days one of the most common means of virus infection is for instant messaging on Internet chat software email are the biggest means of spread virus worldwide.
